The Sooners claimed their 13th victory of the season and remained unbeaten as the nation’s No. 1-ranked team with a narrow 197.775-197.575 win over No. 2 UCLA.
A record-setting crowd of over 10,000 fans at Lloyd Noble Center more than got its money’s worth as the Oklahoma victory was not secured until the very last rotation.
The competition came down to UCLA’s performance on the balance beam, an event in which the Bruins are one of the best in the country, against the Sooners’ floor exercise routines. In contrast to UCLA’s excellence on the beam, floor exercise is not one of OU’s best events.
