Oklahoma football: Lincoln Riley intrigued by XFL kickoff rules

Lincoln Riley has a little bit of down time. Not a lot. College football coaches have serious time demands. But Riley has some free time this time of year and thus has watched the XFL, the fledgling spring pro league.

One team in particular, of course, Bob Stoops’ Dallas Renegades, but also a little bit of the Los Angeles Wildcats, who sport former Sooner Jordan Smallwood.

And Riley is intrigued by some of the XFL’s revolutionary rules, particularly as they pertain to kickoffs.

Here’s how the XFL describes its kickoff rule: “The kicker kicks from the 30-yard line and must kick the ball in the air and in play between the opponent’s 20-yard line and the end zone.
