WACO - Third-ranked Oklahoma weathered a strong and unexpected challenge to defeat Baylor, 49-41, on Saturday night at McLane Stadium.

Winless Baylor, a 27 ½-point underdog, rallied from an 18-point deficit to go ahead 31-28 late in the third quarter. The Bears recovered an onside kick with 1:40 remaining but gave up the ball when quarterback Zach Smith took a sack.

“It’s hard trying to learn something new," said first-year Baylor coach Matt Rhule. “But when you learn it, you learn it for life."

Baylor (0-4, 0-1 Big 12) exposed flaws in Oklahoma’s defense. Smith, in his second start, threw for 463 yards and had two touchdown tosses of more than 70 yards.
