Jalen Hurts' Heisman stock up after Sooners debut

NORMAN — Unsurprisingly, Jalen Hurts’ performance in Sunday’s 49-31 win over Houston boosted Hurts’ status as a Heisman Trophy contender.

Hurts was atop ESPN’s Heisman Watch after throwing for 332 yards and rushing for 176 more and accounting for six touchdowns.

Hurts received six of the 10 first-place votes in the poll, racking up 39 total points. Clemson running back Travis Etienne was second with three first-place votes and 35 points. Albama quarterback Tua Tagovailoa, who was the runner-up to Kyler Murray for last year’s Heisman after beating out Hurts for the starting job, was third with 27 points.
