How will Big 12 officials respond to the 'Horns Down' gesture in 2019? 'It depends'

ARLINGTON -- Texas and Oklahoma enter the 2019 college football season as front-runners in the Big 12 Conference, and once again accompanying the two longtime rivals is everybody’s favorite controversy.

That is of course, none other than the “Horns Down” gesture.

The inverted “Hook ‘Em Horns” hand-sign has experienced somewhat of a resurgence ever since being called for an unsportsmanlike conduct penalty during Texas’ home game vs. West Virginia last November. Alas, many can only wonder if it will be treated the same by officials this fall.

On Tuesday at Big 12 Media Days, conference coordinator of football officials Greg Burks weighed in on the matter after being asked how the league will respond to the gesture should players flash the sign going forward.
