Big 12/Pac-12 scheduling alliance in the future?

Former Kansas State president Jon Wefald has proposed a scheduling alliance between the Big 12 and Pac-12 conferences in which every Big 12 non-conference football game is played against a Pac-12 foe.

The San Jose Mercury News reported Wefald’s proposal, which came at the bequest of current West Virginia president Gordon Gee. You can read the Mercury News story here.

Wefald’s proposal has scant chance of being adopted, for a variety of reasons, but shows that some kind of Big 12/Pac-12 schedule alliance could be beneficial. Such a plan has been discussed for years.

Wefald, president of K-State from 1986-2009, told the Mercury News he was contacted by Gee and asked to develop a plan to “strengthen” the Big 12.
