Berry Tramel: Only Texas saved the Big 12 from a winless post-season

Now all but K-State are gone. The Wildcats have settled in as a solid program but nothing great. KSU finished in the AP top 10 in five of six seasons, 1997-02. The Wildcats haven’t finished there since.

I love West Virginia, but the Mountaineers haven’t made a huge impact. Iowa State and Kansas have limitations. The Big 12’s Southwest majority carries the freight. The Sooners are doing their part, excluding playoff losses, and Baylor, TCU and Oklahoma State have played above their pay grade.

Texas has not. Hope springs eternal on the Colorado River, but until the Longhorns start living up to their blueblood status, the Big 12 won’t prosper.
