5 greatest defensive players in Oklahoma Sooners history: How many players from Stoops era make the list?

Before Oklahoma installed the flashy offenses of the Bob Stoops era, it was a program known for stout defenses.

Plenty of players, like Tommie Harris, Dewey and Lucious Selmon, Teddy Lehman, Derrick Strait and Rod Shoate, were left off this list -- not because of a lack of talent. Countless great defensive players have taken the field in Norman, making it extremely hard to narrow them down to just the five best.

That said, let's get down to the rankings.

5. Rocky Calmus (1998-2001)

Accolades: National champion (2000), Butkus Award (2001), first team All-American (2000-01), Big 12 defensive player or the year (2000-01), first team All-Big 12 (1999-2001)

Calmus' senior season saw him win the Butkus Award as the nation's top linebacker and finish as finalists for the Nagurski and Bednarik Awards as college football's best defensive player and the Lombardi Award as the best interior player.
