The 3 Most Likely Bowl Destinations For The Oklahoma Sooners

Oklahoma might have fallen out of the College Football Playoff picture, but they could still end the year in a solid bowl game. The Sooners are a major commercial draw with a huge fanbase, and there are several mid-to-top-tier bowls that would love to have them - here are their three most likely destinations:

Russell Athletic Bowl (ACC vs. Big 12)

Mon., Dec. 29, 5:30 p.m. ET

Florida Citrus Bowl, Orlando, FL

The Russell Athletic Bowl might not have the name draw or the appeal of one of the former BCS bowls, but it would give Oklahoma a great chance to end the year on a high note. Possible opponents include Duke, Notre Dame, Clemson, and Georgia Tech...and the Sooners would have an excellent chance against any of those squads. Out of all the bowl destinations out there, you could do a LOT worse than Orlando in late December.

Valero Alamo Bowl

Fri., Jan. 2, 6:45 p.m. ET

Alamodome, San Antonio, TX

If fans want the most prestigious bowl available, the Alamo Bowl is probably the most realistic option. While Oklahoma would need a big win over Oklahoma State (and a few other results to go their way) to improve their bid, it could definitely happen. The Sooners would likely face Arizona, Arizona State, or UCLA - tougher opponents than they might face in the Russell Athletic Bowl, but nothing Oklahoma can't handle. A game in San Antonio would also be fantastic for Sooners fans hoping for a short, easy trip to someplace warm.

AdvoCare Texas Bowl (Big 12 vs. SEC)

Mon., Dec. 29, 9:00 p.m. ET

NRG Stadium, Houston, TX

This is the least-appealing option from a prestige standpoint, but it's a very real possibility if the Sooners end up 4th in the Big 12. While this would have the advantages of a short trip to Houston and some intriguing matchup options (Texas A&M, possibly LSU), Sooners fans would have to swallow some pride to accept the Texas Bowl after a season where a playoff appearance looked within reach.
