Former TCU running back LaDainian Tomlinson held the record before Gordon with 406 yards in 1999.

Perine managed to break the record on just 34 carries in three and a half quarters against the Kansas Jayhawks. He also contributed five touchdowns before he was taken out of the game early in the fourth quarter.

Oklahoma defeated Kansas 44-7.
