Venerable Dodger Stadium getting a renovation

Dodger Stadium is getting an $100 million renovation.

And that’s very good news for baseball fans and anyone who likes tradition.

Dodger Stadium opened in 1962 and still is going strong, as the third-oldest major league baseball venue and the fifth-oldest in the three major American sports. Only Fenway Park, Wrigley Field, the LA Memorial Coliseum and Lambeau Field are older. I exclude Soldier Field, which was built in 1924, because its 2002 renovation was so comprehensive, it looks nothing like its former self and was even removed from the National Register of Historic Places.

The Dodger Stadium renovation will include a new centerfield plaza that gives the ballpark a virtual front door for the first time ever, as well as adding elevators and bridges which will allow easier movement for fans in the ballpark that was built into Chavez Ravine.
