Thunder: With salary cap uncertainty, assessing contract situations for 2020-21

Beyond the uncertainty of whether this NBA season can be salvaged is another looming question: How will the 2020-21 season be affected? And more specifically, how will the NBA’s revenue loss due to the coronavirus outbreak alter the salary cap?

Days after the season was suspended, The Athletic estimated that the 2020-21 salary cap could drop by $8 million. ESPN’s Adrian Wojnarowski reported in January that the projected 2020-21 cap was $115 million — up from this season’s cap of $109 million.

The salary cap is based on basketball-related income. That includes everything from ticket revenue to broadcast rights to concession sales.
