Salt Lake City travelblog: Touring the Mormons' Temple Square

Erik Horne and I walked around Temple Square on Monday, which is holy ground for members of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-Day Saints. And we were a little confused. We hadn’t really figured out the difference between the tabernacle and the temple.

The tabernacle is an impressive sanctuary where the famed Mormon Tabernacle Choir sings on a regular basis. The temple is the building that Brigham Young envisioned not long after leading his people to Utah and is an architectural marvel. Think St. Peter’s Basilica or Winchester Cathedral.

So Erik and I, walking around Temple Square before the Thunder-Jazz game, approached the temple, where the Mormons perform sacred ordinances such as baptisms and marriages.
