Report: Melo tells OKC he won't terminate contract

Carmelo Anthony won’t terminate the final year of his contract in Oklahoma City, and the veteran forward has informed the Thunder of that decision, according to a report on Saturday.

Yahoo Sports reported that Anthony has let the Thunder know that he won’t exercise an early termination option for next season, meaning he’s owed $27.9 million in 2018-19. The deadline for early termination is Saturday at 11 p.m. CT.

Anthony’s decision was expected, and it doesn’t necessarily guarantee that he’ll return to the Thunder.

He can be traded, though it’s unlikely many if any teams would take on such a hefty salary for the 10-time All-Star, who at 34 years old is coming off the lowest-scoring and worst-shooting season of his career.
