Mike Wilks' rise from Thunder player to assistant a product of personality

For seven seasons, Mike Wilks was happy with his position, what he was learning and the people he worked with daily. Yet, while traveling and scouting an average of three games a week for the Thunder, he’d occasionally get a question from friends in the NBA or college ranks.

Those friends clearly saw something in the NBA veteran turned front-office asset.

"They’d ask ‘Have you ever thought about coaching?’" Wilks told The Oklahoman. "When this opportunity came about, I prayed about it and thought about it.

"I got to think about it a little more and I had a chance to get on the floor a little bit and get those juices flowing again, I just felt like it was it was the right time, the right situation, and it came about organically.
