How the Thunder turned Serge Ibaka into Paul George & Jerami Grant

You never know how an NBA trade will go. You never know where an NBA trade will go.

On the morning of June 23, 2016, Serge Ibaka woke up a member of the Thunder. He had just finished the third year of his four-year contract, paying $12.5 million per season.

By nightfall, Ibaka was with the Orlando Magic. Sam Presti traded Ibaka to Orlando for Victor Oladipo, the drafted-that-night Domantas Sabonis and Ersan Ilyasova. Oladipo had one year left on his contract; he would make $6.5 million in 2016-17, then become a restricted free agent in summer 2017.
