3 big men OKC Thunder should target to address front court depth

Despite sitting in third position with a 26-16 record, the injury bug has officially hit the OKC Thunder front line. Steven Adams is questionable for tonight’s game after he tweaked his left ankle in the loss to the San Antonio two nights ago. The 25-year-old joins Nerlens Noel on the injury list, leaving the Thunder without a center to man the middle.

OKC clearly need another big man but what kind of player should they search for?

To avoid redundancy on its roster, it would be wise for Oklahoma City to trade for a big man who can fulfill at least two of the following:

  • play both the four and five spot
  • can shoot from mid-range or beyond
  • plays hard and hustles on the block
  • rebound at a reasonable rate

The NBA temporarily went through a phase of introducing stretch five’s into the league and while many failed to stick, those who have allowed their respective clubs to play five out (ball handler surrounded by four shooters).
