Texas Hires Ohio State Co-Offensive Coordinator, Buckeyes To Hire Former Big Ten Coach As Replacement

New Texas Longhorns head coach Tom Herman has hired Ohio State co-offensive coordinator Tim Beck to be his OC, according to Horns Digest:

The sources told HornsDigest.com Herman has long respected Beck - even considering him for the offensive coordinator position at Houston when Herman took over as head coach of the Cougars in 2015 before ultimately hiring Major Applewhite.

The sources said Beck, 50, will run Herman's offense at Texas - just as Applewhite ran Herman's offense at UH (serving as the lone offensive coordinator, calling plays, running the offense in practice, etc.), and that once Herman lays out the offensive philosophy and principles - Beck will be in full charge of the offense while serving as QB coach. Of course, Herman would be involved in adjustments to game plans and on game days, sources said.

Beck has brought in by Urban Meyer to be Herman's replacement as Ohio State's offensive coordinator in 2015, but was never given lone control of the offense.

To replace Beck, Ohio State has reportedly hired former Indiana head coach Kevin Wilson.

Wilson was fired from Indiana on Dec. 1 due to his alleged mistreatment of players.

However, Ohio State wasn't done revamping their offense, which came under intense scrutiny during the season, and especially after their 31-0 loss to Clemson in the Fiesta Bowl. Meyer is also hiring hiring former 49ers QB coach Ryan Day as a co-coordinator and QB coach. Day has worked under Chip Kelly for the last three seasons, and was a graduate assistant under Meyer at Florida in 2005.
