Emily Williams has two lasting memories from her years serving as Ohio State University mascot Brutus Buckeye — one that happened on a football field and the other on a deathbed.
“Being on the field when we won the 2002 national championship was exhilarating,” Williams said. “But right up there was when we got a call from a family with a 12-year-old boy who was dying, and the last thing he wanted to do was meet Brutus.
“I was so nervous when I went to his house, and as soon as he saw me, his face lit up in a big smile.
