On This Day In History, 1996: No. 7 Ohio State Hands Pittsburgh Worst Loss in School History

One score years ago Wednesday, the Pittsburgh Panthers rolled into the Ohio Stadium for a contest against the No. 7 Ohio State Buckeyes, who had won the last three years by a combined score of 144-45.

The Buckeyes entered as heavy favorites, and a beating bordering assault unfolded in front of 93,959 Scarlet and Gray fanatics.

Buckeye running back (and future Marion Mayhem coach) Pepe Pearson rushed for three touchdowns. Quarterbacks Joe Jermaine and Stanley Jackson combined for four touchdowns.

The Buckeyes led 52-0 at halftime. When the dust settled at 72-0, the Panthers were left with their worst loss in school history.
