Ohio State traveled to Northwestern’s Welsh-Ryan Arena with a top-15 ranking for the second straight season.
And, for the second straight season, the Wildcats were unafraid.
This time, however, the Buckeyes overcame the upset bid. Led by junior guard Kelsey Mitchell, who scored 18 of her 33 points in the final two quarters, No. 11 Ohio State finished off Northwestern 94-87 on Tuesday night in Evanston, Illinois, for its fourth straight win.
A Christen Inman free throw cut the Buckeyes’ lead to 58-56 with just under 5 minutes left in the third quarter. Mitchell, who missed a couple third-quarter minutes after taking a hand to the face, returned after the made free throw, and so did the Buckeyes (13-4, 3-0).
