For years, the Ohio State women’s tennis team played second fiddle compared with the men’s team.
While coach Ty Tucker’s men's team has long been among the elite college programs, the women’s team hadn’t won a Big Ten title since 2000 and had never ranked higher than 17th. Given that history, Tuesday was a monumental day as the Ohio State women ascended to the No. 1 spot in the ITA Division I national rankings.
“Obviously, we’re excited,” said coach Melissa Schaub, who quickly added that the Buckeyes are determined not to go overboard about the ranking. “We broke into the top 10 for the first time a few weeks ago and said, ‘Good job, congratulations, but let’s not talk about this again.
