GENEVA, Ohio — Even though Ashtabula is on the northeastern snowbelt swing of Ohio, back in the day, it still saw its occasional big-time visitor from the world of major college football.
Urban Meyer can remember when Ohio State’s Woody Hayes came to town.
“He spoke at the Touchdown Club. We had a Touchdown Club every year, and we had (Georgia’s) Vince Dooley one year,” he said. “We had Lou Holtz a couple times — northeastern Ohio, and it’s coming back. Great players came out of here. It used to be great football, and it’s getting better again.
