Ohio State Celebrates 100+ Years of Illibuck Trophy with First Win Over Illinois Since 2017

Illibuck XI has renewed his residency in Columbus.

Nearly a century after Ohio State and Illinois enshrined the longevity of their rivalry by choosing a turtle as its representation, the Buckeyes improved their record against the Fighting Illini to 69-30-4 all-time yesterday with a 34-16 win in Champaign, IL.

Illinois actually ended up outgaining Ohio State in total offensive yards — and Bret Bielema felt he somewhat figured out Matt Patricia's defense — but Ohio State built an early lead off of multiple Illinois turnovers and never looked back. The Buckeyes led 20-3 at halftime and the Fighting Illini did not reach the endzone until roughly 10 minutes remained in the third quarter.
