Ohio State Burns Akron Behind Big Night From Defensive Line and Solid First Collegiate Start From Freshman Quarterback Kyle McCord

True freshman quarterback Kyle McCord overcame a tough beginning to his first collegiate start while a stout front four anchored the defense during a much-needed blowout win over Akron, 59-7, last night in Ohio Stadium.

McCord, on the field in place of the injured C.J. Stroud, teamed with running back TreVeyon Henderson, defensive end J.T. Tuimoloau and cornerback Denzel Burke to give the Buckeyes four true freshman starters in the game, marking the first time that's happened since 1944 which comes with a bit of an asterisk as it occurred during World War II.

Ohio State trailed 7-0 early before rattling off 59 straight points.
