Ohio State and Cincinnati Casino Settle Dispute over ‘The Shoe’

Caesars Entertainment Group, proprietors of the Horseshoe Casino in Cincinnati, attempted to name the casino's entertainment venue "The Shoe" in 2015.

Ohio State objected as it owns the trademark for "The Shoe" for t-shirts and toys. It has since filed to trademark "The Shoe" and "The 'Shoe" for entertainment services as the university recently returned to holding concerts and other entertainment events in the Horseshoe.

Thus, its lawyers argued, Ohio Stadium is a direct competitor of the Horseshoe Casino's entertainment venue.

Caesars countered by claiming "The Shoe," isn't a household name and the distance between the two venues prevented any confusion.
