Shayla Cooper finished with 16 points and 14 rebounds for the Buckeyes (4-1). Stephanie Mavunga added 13 points and 12 rebounds for Ohio State.
Taylor Gradinjan and Nasrin Ulel scored 13 each for Florida Gulf Coast (2-3), which trailed just 36-35 at halftime.
Ohio State led 56-51 after Mikala McGhee made a three-pointer for Florida Gulf Coast with 7:58 left.
