Michigan Fires Head Coach Sherrone Moore for Inappropriate Relationship with Staff Member

Sherrone Moore is out after two seasons as Michigan’s head coach.

Michigan fired Sherrone Moore for cause on Wednesday after a university investigation found that Moore had engaged in an inappropriate relationship with a staff member, according to a statement by Michigan athletic director Warde Manuel.

Associate head coach Biff Poggi has been appointed as Michigan’s interim head coach, effective immediately.

Moore’s firing ends a tumultuous two-year tenure as Michigan’s head coach in which he went just 16-8 after taking over the program from Jim Harbaugh, who left the Wolverines after winning the national championship in 2023 amid a university investigation into an impermissible scouting scandal orchestrated by former Michigan staffer Connor Stalions.
