Michael Redd Encourages Ohio State Graduates to “Dare to Be Different” in Summer Commencement Speech

Ohio State's newest group of approximately 1,700 graduates received some words of wisdom from former Buckeye basketball player Michael Redd during the university's summer commencement on Sunday.

In an approximately 10-minute speech during Sunday's virtual ceremony, which graduates were unable to attend in person due to the ongoing COVID-19 pandemic, Redd – a three-time Ohio State team MVP and Ohio State Athletics Hall of Famer who went on to play 12 seasons in the NBA and is now the CEO of 22 Ventures and a venture partner at ADvantage Sports Fund – encouraged listeners to “run towards the challenge,” to “never be afraid of failure” and to “dare to be different.
