For the first few weeks of this season, Matt Patricia's defense was the most interesting part of Sunday morning tape sessions here at Film Study HQ. The last two weeks, however, have been different. Not because of anything Caleb Downs, Arvell Reese, and co. have done, but rather due to the development of the Buckeyes' young quarterback, Julian Sayin.
The redshirt freshman continues to put great reps on tape, even when not pushing the ball downfield. According to PFF, Sayin was the highest-graded Buckeye against the Illini despite only throwing for 166 yards. While his performance lacked the big play many fans have craved, his efficiency and ability to work through progressions were impressive for a player making his sixth career start.
