Former Ohio State athletic director Gene Smith will be lending his assistance to Maryland athletics — temporarily.
According to a report by the Columbus Dispatch, Smith is serving as a consultant for Maryland for the next six months.
“You have to have something to keep you mentally active,” Smith told the Dispatch, “and the consulting and board work keeps me mentally active. Obviously, I'm not working 80-plus hours a week.”
Smith is assisting former Ohio State associate athletic director for marketing and communications Jim Smith, who just began his tenure as Maryland's athletic director last week.
