Drum major explains Ohio State's triple-knock tradition

Ohio State University Marching Band drum major Nathan MacMasters performs a special tradition for a few dozen people before every home game.

Inside the stadium at the top of the band's entrance ramp, he warms up by performing a "triple-knock."

The tradition begins with a back bend. The drum major allows the white feathers of the top hat to touch the ground before he straightens up and runs 20 feet forward to a metal plate on the wall.

He almost taps the plate with the baton, but he stops short.

"It just doesn't work out," MacMasters joked.
