College Football | Ohio State linebacker Perry surprised by national award

Ohio State linebacker Joshua Perry thought he had returned to Olentangy High School on Friday afternoon to attend a pep rally and help spur on his alma mater football team toward another victory. Instead, the pep rally was for him.

The senior was named one of the 22 members nationwide of the All-State “good works team,” college football players recognized not only for their achievements on the field but also for their extra efforts off the field and in the community. And he clearly was taken aback.

“It was a big surprise,” said Perry, who otherwise was enjoying this off week for the top-ranked Buckeyes.
