Bob Hunter commentary | Ohio State’s 1966 team set standard for Big Ten baseball

Russ Nagelson was a quarterback for Deer Park High School in a suburb of Cincinnati when Ohio State football coach Woody Hayes invited him in for a weekend visit. On that Sunday, Hayes called Nagelson and the recruit’s father into his office for what would prove to be a fateful meeting.

“He said, ‘Mr. Nagelson, your son is going to make a fine guard on my team,’” Nagelson said. “My dad said, ‘Coach, Russell is a quarterback,’ and Woody said, “Not on my team. If he wants to play on my team, he’s going to be a guard.
