Baseball | Ohio State defeats Rutgers in memorial game

Senior left-hander John Havird pitched seven strong innings for the Buckeyes (22-12-1, 3-5) in an 11-3 Big Ten victory over Rutgers (16-17, 3-5) at Bill Davis Stadium.

It was the Zach Farmer Memorial Game, dedicated to the former OSU player who died of leukemia last summer.

Havird (3-1) allowed two runs, neither earned with one walk and one strikeout.

Troy Montgomery and Troy Kuhn led the offense with three hits. Montgomery scored twice and added a stolen base, and Kuhn had two RBI.

Senior co-captain Nick Sergakis hit his seventh homer of the season as Ohio State scored in the second through sixth innings, then added another run in the eighth.
