Ohio State Football News: Athletic Director Gene Smith Denies Interviewing For Texas AD Job

While Texas may be trying to court Ohio State's athletic director Gene Smith to fill their soon-to-be-vacant AD position, Smith issued a statement through the Ohio State media department on Thursday afternoon denying reports that he'll interview with Texas.

Kirk Bohls of the Austin American-Statesman reported that Smith will interview for for the Longhorns AD job, which will open up with DeLoss Dodds' retirement in 2014. Smith's statement fully denied all links to the Texas job:

"I have the greatest respect for the University of Texas and one of my mentors, DeLoss Dodds, I am fortunate to have the opportunity to be the athletics director at The Ohio State University. Reports of me interviewing at the University of Texas are innacurate." Smith said.

Smith wasn't considered a main candidate for the Texas job until Bohls' story Thursday morning, with West Virginia AD Oliver Luck (father of Indianapolis Colts QB Andrew Luck) tabbed as the frontrunner.
