The Ohio State Buckeyes have dismissed running back Rod Smith for a violation of team rules, ElevenWarriors.com revealed on Monday night.

“When I was getting ready for training camp, there was part of me saying we probably won’t have a back,” head coach Urban Meyer said recently of Smith, via Zach Barnett of NBC's College Football Talk. “Not a bad guy, just struggled academically, didn’t do much. He’s been a pleasure to coach.  His demeanor, his work ethic.  I really like where he’s at.”

Smith ranks fifth on the team with 24 carries for 101 yards and five touchdowns in 2014. He was also a big part of the Buckeyes' special teams unit.

Urban Meyer has yet to provide an official statement on the matter as of this writing. Stay tuned to our Ohio State Buckeyes team page for all the latest.
