3 Potential New Offensive Coordinators For Ohio State

The Ohio State Buckeyes will lose offensive coordinator Tom Herman after the National Championship Game as he's taken the head coaching job at Houston, meaning Urban Meyer will be looking for someone to can lead the nation's fifth highest scoring offense. Who are the candidates to replace Herman?

Ed Warinner, Ohio State Offensive Line Coach

Warinner is the most logical choice to take over since he already knows Meyer and Ohio State's philosophies on offense and the players, and giving him a promotion (plus the salary bump) makes sense. Warinner received a ton of praise this year after he took a line that was replacing four starters and turned it into a strength of Ohio State's offense. He would maintain continuity within the program, and he's already respected by everyone around the Buckeyes.

Doug Meacham, TCU Co-Offensive Coordinator

Meacham was the mastermind behind TCU's record-setting offense this season (his first year on the job), and he took quarterback Trevone Boykin from a relative unknown and turned him into a Heisman candidate. His up-tempo, spread style is very similar to what Ohio State already runs, and his history of developing quarterbacks would only make J.T. Barrett better. The Horned Frogs will do whatever they can to keep Meacham, but the Buckeyes could throw money at him that TCU can't match.

Lincoln Riley, ECU Offensive Coordinator

Riley is widely considered to be a rising star in the coaching world, and he'll be taking a bigger job somewhere soon. He took over ECU's offense in 2010, and developed quarterback Shane Carden and wideout Justin Hardy into NFL prospects while leading one of the country's best units every year. Riley learned the up-tempo spread offense while playing quarterback and coaching at Texas Tech, and while he's more pass-happy than Ohio State may want, his success is hard to deny.
