ANAHEIM — In an era of new-fangled exercises and diets designed to extend the careers of athletes, A’s reliever Yusmeiro Petit has lasted 11 years in the big leagues by keeping it old school.
About four hours before every game, Petit makes his way out to the field by himself. With cones lined up in the outfield, Petit partakes in various running sprints as part of his daily routine, scoffing at the idea of advanced training methods going on around the big leagues.
“I’m ancient. There’s new exercises out there that people say do the same job as running, but to me it’s a lie,” Petit said.
