Thanks in large part to slugger Matt Olson catching fire in September, the A’s are poised to turn in their best month in nearly a year.
Now, however, the team might be without the rookie first baseman the rest of the way. Olson strained his left hamstring trying to stretch for a throw at first base in the seventh inning Sunday and the injury worsened Monday. Sans Olson, the A’s seven-game winning streak came to an end in a 7-1 loss to the Mariners at the Coliseum. Oakland recorded just two hits off in Felix Hernandez’s six innings of work, and A’s starter Daniel Gossett allowed four home runs.
