With trade rumors swirling, A’s anxious for deadline to pass

In his last pregame interview before the non-waiver trade deadline, A’s manager Bob Melvin said he’s anxious for Monday’s 1 p.m. cutoff to come and go.

A’s starting pitcher Sonny Gray, first baseman Yonder Alonso and infielder Jed Lowrie have been popular targets for contending teams on the rumor mill, but all three were still in Oakland uniforms for Sunday’s game against Minnesota.

“It’s like getting down to the eighth or ninth inning and hoping you hang on,” Melvin said. “As far as the Sonny situation, a lot plays into that. He’s been a guy I’ve been really close to over the years and who has pitched some great games for us.
