CLEVELAND — Oakland’s strikeout issues have hit record proportions, with 65 K’s in the first five games of the road trip matching the most in Oakland history over a five-game stretch.
Through Tuesday, the A’s 465 strikeouts for the season were second most in the league, but they were still well behind Tampa Bay, which had 572.
Why all the K’s for the A’s? Manager Bob Melvin has pointed to the fact that the team hits a lot of homers — 74 entering Wednesday, second most in franchise history after 51 games — as one reason for the uptick in strikeouts.
