MIAMI — As the A’s youth movement continues now at the big-league level, playing time for some veterans is dipping substantially.
Trevor Plouffe was not at third base again Wednesday, and he got just one start in six games on the road trip after opening the season as an everyday player. Second-year player Ryon Healy is getting the majority of time at third, and top third-base prospect Matt Chapman could be called up very soon now that gaining super-two arbitration status is no longer possible.
After Healy made his eighth error of the season at third Wednesday, it appears that Chapman could be called up as soon as Thursday.
