GOODYEAR, Ariz. - Franklin Barreto’s locker space was filled with balloons and gift backs Tuesday morning for the infielder’s 22nd birthday.
His fun day continued at Goodyear Ballpark, where Barreto drilled two standup triples, drove in a run and scored twice in Oakland’s 16-8 loss to the Indians.
Asked about his birthday, Barreto smiled and said, with Juan Dorado interpreting, “I think it’s one of the best ones.”
Barreto, obtained in the Josh Donaldson deal with the Blue Jays, is working on cutting down his strikeouts and making more consistent contact this spring; he’s trying to be more selective and to eliminate excess movement at the plate.
