The Athletics announced Thursday that they will play in West Sacramento starting next year, giving an embattled A’s fan base the devastating confirmation that this season will be the team’s last in Oakland. But within the cruel announcement lays a peculiar detail that leaves room for further setbacks in John Fisher’s plan to move the organization to Las Vegas.

As things currently stand, the A’s will play in the minor league stadium of the Giants’ Triple-A affiliate, the Sacramento River Cats, from 2025 through 2027 as the team waits to make its transition to Sin City.
