Takeaways: A’s beat odds, beat Twins 8-6

OAKLAND — A first-place Minnesota Twins team with All-Star ace Jake Odorizzi on the mound greeted the A’s upon their return home Tuesday. Reputation lost to storybook stuff.

Chris Herrmann, playing his first game of the season and first in an A’s uniform, delivered a grand slam against Odorizzi, and the A’s (47-39) moved into second place in the A.L. West with their fourth straight victory and sixth in seven games.

Here are three takeaways from the A’s 8-6 win over the Twins.

In his first at-bat, in the second inning, Herrmann worked Odorizzi into a full count.
