OAKLAND — The A’s have gotten a first-hand look at one of baseball’s most electric players in Jose Altuve this weekend, but a similar player might reside in their own clubhouse.

In a talent-rich farm system that is full of potential young stars, Franklin Barreto has been considered the top prospect of the bunch over the past two seasons. Acquired from the Blue Jays in the 2014 trade that sent Josh Donaldson to Toronto, Barreto is starting to show why he’s expected to be a huge piece of the rebuilding A’s.

Barreto got the start at shortstop in the second game of Saturday’s doubleheader against the Houston Astros and went 2 for 4, with both hits coming late in the game as he fueled the charge for yet another A’s late-inning comeback win.
