Sonny Gray will begin a minor-league rehab assignment at Class A Stockton on Saturday and throw roughly 65 pitches in four or five innings.
From there, Gray, who’s recovering from a lat strain, might need just one more rehab game (increasing his workload to 75 to 80 pitches) before joining the A’s rotation.
“That’s what we’re shooting for,” manager Bob Melvin said. “You hate to get ahead of yourself because something could transpire in the meantime that’s not necessarily a setback, but you might just think you need one more time out.
