MESA, Ariz. – The A’s may have pulled a reversal on their recent history with the news Tuesday that starter Sonny Gray has been cleared to resume throwing.
Gray met in Chicago Monday with Dr. Anthony Romeo to have his right lat strain checked out, and Romeo was so pleased he gave Gray clearance to begin throwing immediately instead of holding off for at least another week. So Gray was planning on a late afternoon throwing session Tuesday.
Oakland’s recent history with starting pitchers’ injuries has been one where the injuries seemed to drag on and get extended.
