MESA, Ariz. – Sonny Gray says the potential to pitch in the World Baseball Classic while wearing a Team USA jersey is a major rush.
“When you pitch in something like the WBC, it cranks it up a notch,” Gray said Tuesday after he and his fellow pitchers and catchers reported to the A’s complex. “I’ve never done it before, but I’d think the adrenalin would be flowing and it would be an exciting time.”
We say potential, because while he’s on the Team USA roster, he isn’t scheduled to pitch until the second round of the competition where San Diego will serve as the venue.
